Deputy Larry Henderson Remembered as Hamilton County Court Allows Jurors to Consider a Lesser Charge in the May 2025 Case

Deputy Larry Henderson died on May 2, 2025, after Rodney Hinton Jr. drove into the deputy in Hamilton County, Ohio.

Judge Jody Luebbers ruled Thursday that jurors may consider reckless homicide as a lesser charge while leaving the main charge intact.

Hinton pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and testimony addressed mental illness, acute grief, witness accounts of the vehicle’s path, and Hinton’s awareness of right and wrong.

Witnesses offered differing accounts, with some saying the vehicle traveled toward Henderson and another reporting that it first headed toward a pole.

As court proceedings continue, Henderson’s service and passing remain at the center of a case that has deeply affected the Hamilton County community.
