Derrianna Brown, 18, Dies After Being Found With a Gunshot Wound in a Friend’s Chicago Basement
Derrianna Brown died at age 18 after officers found them with a gunshot wound to the head in a friend’s basement on Wednesday night, October 14, 2026.
Police responded at 8:53 p.m. to the 2700 block of North Monitor Avenue in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood.
Emergency personnel transported Brown to Loyola University Medical Center, where doctors could not save them.
Brown had been visiting friends, and several other teenagers were inside while the parents of one resident were out of town.
Authorities have not determined whether the incident was accidental or intentional.
Investigators questioned a juvenile male as a person of interest before releasing him without charges, and no one remains in custody.
Area 5 detectives continue working to establish what happened as Brown’s family and friends mourn a life that ended far too soon.
